The Olympic Delivery Authority has today (28 March 2012) granted planning permission for the redevelopment of a significant site, at the front door of the Olympic Park. The ODA has formally issued their permission for the residential-led scheme, comprising 2 towers (35 & 15 storeys), linked by a podium block.
The scheme will include 191 private residential units and commercial, commercial start-up units on the lower stories.

Planning consultants Montagu Evans and architects Jestico & Whiles have been advising on the development of this high-profile site, at the gateway to the Olympic area from Central London. This has involved ext
ensive discussions with the 2 statutory authorities – LB Newham & the ODA. Given the proposed height and prominence of the site, we have had to undertake extensive consultations and discussions with statutory and non-statutory bodies such as CABE, the Environment Agency, British Waterways.
The proposal is to create a striking and elegant landmark marking this important location. A landscaped public space will be created on the riverside (River Lee & Bow Back Rivers) with pedestrian routes through the site linking to the existing footbridge to the surrounding area, including Stratford High Street.
The ground and first floors of both blocks will contain commercial spaces, with a two-storey gym in the base of the taller building which will animate the street frontage and provide natural surveillance of the public space.

Montagu Evans has expanded its City team as the partnership prepares to move to new offices.
The existing City office, which is headed by Martin Wallace, has been boosted by the arrival of a new partner and the move of two equity partners across from the West End office.
The firm has hired former Drivers Jonas Deloitte's investment agent, Tony Lander, who has operated in the City for more than 20 years.
Bolstering the City office further is the relocation from the West End of rating partner, Simon Harris, and professional services partner, Gary Howes, together with their respective teams.
In order to accommodate the doubling in size, the Montagu Evans City office will move to the first floor of 11 Old Jewry, EC2, at the end of March.
In a further addition to Montagu Evans' central London resources, Mark Candler and Matthew Jackson, formerly at Jones Lang LaSalle, join the West End agency team as partners, where they will continue to specialise in rent reviews and lease advisory work.
Martin Wallace said: "These strategic additions and changes underlines the commitment of Montagu Evans to strategically grow both the City office and our central London capability. Since 2009, we have recruited a total of six partners in this area of the firm's business."

Montagu Evans' managing partner Clive Riding has resigned from the LLP to take up a board position at residential developer Native Land.
Riding, who was managing partner for seven years and a member of the agent's managing committee for 20 years, will be replaced by head of ratings Steve Thomas (see box).
"Leaving Montagu Evans has been a very difficult decision," said Riding, "especially as I have spent most of my working life there, but this represents an extremely exciting opportunity that I could not turn down."
At Native Land, Riding will become property director and will take on a financial role when current financial director John Brooks retires at the end of March. He will be responsible for top-level management of the business as well as being involved in future acquisitions and funding drives.
The role will be a switch to the other side of the property market for Riding, who has traditionally acted on behalf of banks rather than approaching them for opportunities.
"Native Land has undoubted credentials in the prime London residential market and has played an influential and forward-looking role in shaping the capital's luxury development offer," said Riding.
Alasdair Nicholls, chief executive of the company, whose projects include the 180,000 sq ft redevelopment of Holland Park School, W8, added: "This is a strategic appointment for Native Land which will support our plans to grow our development programme and cement our position as a major player in the sector, in line with our aim to be the partner of choice for investors in the prime central London residential market."

Montagu Evans LLP has appointed Steve Thomas FRICS as its new Managing Partner following the resig
nation of Clive Riding who is taking up an appointment as Property Director of Native Land, the Central London residential development company. Clive has been with Montagu Evans for over 30 years and has worked closely with Steve Thomas in managing the Partnership over the last 7 years.
Commenting on his departure Riding said, “Leaving Montagu Evans has been a very difficult decision, especially as I have spent most of my working life here but this represents an extremely exciting opportunity which has come along that I feel I could not turn down”.
During his time as Managing Partner, Montagu Evans has continued to compete on an equal footing against far larger practices while continuing to grow and attract 21 new Partners particularly to Investment, West End Agency and Planning.
“I am pleased that I leave Montagu Evans in a healthy position”, continued Riding, “and amicably, with the good wishes of my fellow Partners”.
He will join Native Land on 1st June 2012.
Steve Thomas joined Montagu Evans in 1993 and has been on the Partnership’s Managing Committee for the past 16 years. Until April last year Thomas ran Montagu Evans’ Rating Department and is widely recognised as a nationwide expert on all property tax matters with special interest and expertise in the London office market.
Thomas is a firm believer that staff progression and planned succession are key to a successful Partnership. In stepping up to his new challenge Steve Thomas said “it is important to me that the Partners lead and develop their own departments within a framework of excellence where prompt and timely client care are paramount”.
Bill O’Hara, Head of Montagu Evans’ Scottish business has championed the appointment and said “Steve is my first choice for Managing Partner – he has the full support of all the Partners.
Managing Partner, Steve Thomas said “Clive leaves the firm not only in very good shape in these difficult economic times but also profitable. He leaves with our thanks and heartfelt congratulations. We wish him well”.
Steve Thomas joined Montagu Evans in 1993 and has been on the LLP's managing committee for 16 years. He has worked closely with outgoing managing partner Clive Riding for the past seven years. He is also head of rating, with a special interest and expertise in the London office market.
